06/12/2012 (Agence Europe) – EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini has called on Wednesday 6 December for “restraint in any reaction to the expected announcement” by the United States recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, according to a press release from the European External Action Service (see EUROPE 11919). In a telephone conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Mogherini welcomed the commitment by Abbas to call for any demonstrations to remain peaceful. She also announced that President Abbas would meet EU foreign ministers in Brussels in January. The meeting could take place on the sidelines of the Council scheduled for 22 January. (CG)
