06/12/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 5 December, the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) published a press release during the Council of the European Union Transport meeting (see EUROPE 11919) in which it welcomed the progress made in the discussions on tackling the issue of letterbox companies and light vehicles. The ETF, however, regrets that the negotiations stagnated on the question of working conditions for road hauliers, particularly on the working and rest times and on the other aspects of the first “mobility” package (see EUROPE 11799). Eduardo Chagas, the ETF Secretary General stated, “Our bus, coach and truck drivers are looking to Brussels with hope that the decisions taken will guarantee equal pay for all, better working conditions, more time with family, less fatigue and better safety”.
