A member state must examine a request for asylum if it has not transferred the asylum seeker within the deadline period to the EU state of first entry

In a decision made on Wednesday 25 October (C-201/16), the European Court of Justice (CJEU) considers that the effect of the expiry of the six-month period available to a member state under the Dublin III Regulation for transferring an applicant for international protection to the member state responsible, which has agreed to take him back, is that it itself becomes responsible for processing the application for protection.
