18/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – “I came here with a clear message: to make sure that Privacy Shield works, that it brings the necessary equivalent protection (...) and that we will come to a win-win solution”, stated European Justice Commissioner Vera Jourová following her meeting with US Trade Secretary Wilbur Ross on Monday 18 September. At the meeting to launch the first assessment of the Privacy Shield mechanism, Jourová underlined the importance of robust, trustworthy annual reviews given the concerns expressed by European data protection players, a Commission spokesperson stated. Jourová expects the assessment to provide a clear demonstration that the United States is honouring its commitments and that the supervision mechanisms put in place are working well. The EU and the US will continue their discussions for two days and should turn their attention on Wednesday to areas of possible improvement. (MF)
