15/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 14 September, following a double suicide attack in the southern Iraqi city of al Nasiriyah earlier that day, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) reiterated the EU's support to the Iraqi government and people in achieving their country's vision of a stable and peaceful Iraq. "The attack comes just as the successful military, territorial campaign against Da'esh is nearing a close, and Iraqis of all backgrounds are starting to tackle the post-conflict challenges with a view to constructing a stable and peaceful Iraq", the EEAS spokesperson stated in a press release. At least 84 people were killed and just under a hundred wounded on 14 September in a double attack claimed by so-called Islamic State. This is the deadliest attack since Mosul was re-taken from Da'esh in early July. (CG)
