Three new protected designations of origin

15/09/2017 (Agence Europe)The European Commission announced on Friday 15 September that it had approved the registration of three further protected designations of origin (PDO). From France, there are two products: “Jambon noir de Bigorre”, a dried ham made from pure-bred Gascon pigs, and “Porc noir de Bigorre”, fresh meat from pure bred male and female Gascon pigs. Bigorre is in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the south-east of France. The Commission also approved the request for inclusion in the PDO register of “Pefkothymaromelo Kritis”, a natural blend of thyme and pine honeys produced in Crete. These three new designations have been added to the more than 1,400 products already given EU protection. (LC)
