12/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 September, the vast majority of MEPs (683 votes to three with two abstentions) voted to cancel three regulations in the field of transport. These are: Regulation 1101/89 on structural improvements in inland navigation, Regulation 2888/2000 on quotas of heavy goods vehicles received from Switzerland between 2001 and 2004 and Regulation 685/2001 on the conditions for transporting goods by road and promoting combined transport between the European Community, Bulgaria and Romania. As these regulations have become obsolete, the Commission made a proposal on 29 November of last year to cancel them in the framework of the 'Better Regulation' initiative. At a meeting of the 'transport' committee, the MEPs voted the text through at first reading on 20 June. (LT)
