12/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 11 September, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini called on the Burmese government to keep its promises. In a press release, she states that the EU has raised its concerns with the members of the government – most recently on 8 September. Mogherini states that she had been "reassured" that there would be implementing steps this week on humanitarian access and on the recommendations of the Advisory Commission – "which I expect to happen", she said. Mogherini also says that she is "following the dramatic developments in Rakhine State and at the border region in Bangladesh closely". She adds that the EU is in close contact with the Bangladeshi authorities and is stepping up its humanitarian engagement there by releasing €3 million to help Rohingya civilians. (CG)
