12/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 September, the Greek MEP Stelio Kougloglou (GUE/NGL) denounced the censorship, “unprecedented in the history of the Parliament”, of an exhibition of caricatures offered by his group to mark the 60th anniversary of the EU. Of the 28 caricatures, drawn by famous Greek caricaturists and presented to the Quaestor responsible, 12 are reported to have been censored. To demonstrate their inoffensive nature, Kougloglou offered to show the press one of the censored caricatures, depicting a car race between François Hollande in a Renault, Matteo Renzi in a Fiat and Angela Merkel behind the wheel of a Porsche, whilst the Greek Minister, Alexis Tsipras, was driving a chariot. The MEP said that he had challenged this “unbelievable” decision, adding that censorship is precisely the thing that has given the EU its poor image. (MF)
