13/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 13 July, the European Commission decided to refer Slovenia to the Court of Justice over its failure to fulfil an obligation, due to its partial failure to communicate transposition measures concerning the directive on the budgetary frameworks of the member states (2011/85/EU). This directive aims to ensure that the member states operate healthy budgetary policies and, for this purpose, requires them to adopt a series of measures, such as the introduction of detailed budgetary rules and the reinforcement of medium-term budgetary programming. The member states had until 31 December 2013 to transpose the text before communicating the measures to the Commission. As Slovenia has only partially notified these, the Commission has decided to bring proceedings over its failure to fulfil an obligation. (LT)
