13/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 13 July, the Commission announced that it was referring Spain to the Court of Justice of the EU over its failure fully to transpose the so-called 'whistleblowers' implementing directive (2015/2932). This directive requires the member states to set in place effective mechanisms for the reporting of breaches of the regulation (596/2014) on market abuses. It contains provisions aiming to protect individuals who notify these infringements and also sets out procedures to protect informants, particularly in terms of personal data, and individuals who are the subject of a notification. The directive should have been transposed by early July 2016 at the latest. (MB)
