15/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release, the Council indicated on Thursday 15 June that Coreper had endorsed, on behalf of the Council, the informal agreement concluded with the European Parliament on the draft regulation amending Regulation 1030/2002 establishing a standard residency permit for third country nationals. The draft amendment establishes a new common concept for the residency permit card in an effort to improve safety features and avoid any fraud. The current card has been in circulation since 1997 but has been compromised by serious incidents involving counterfeit and fraud. The draft regulation will be submitted to the European Parliament for a vote in a first reading and then to the Council for its adoption. (SP)
