15/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) published its 2016 annual report on Monday 12 June. The year was characterised by strong political leadership that an official press release says will open a new phase of stronger regional commitment. The year is also described as one of consolidation of an action-focused methodology. Ten new projects were launched, and the press release says this brought the total by the end of the year to 47 ‘labelled’ projects, most of which are awaiting financing. In total €5.3 billion will need to be found. Once again, 2016 demonstrated the scope and scale of the challenges faced by the EuroMed region in terms of security, migration, unemployment, and climate change – challenges that will require collective, concerted and rapid responses, explains the report (available on the UfM website).
