13/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On the basis of the technical evaluations by the French Building Science and Engineering Centre, the Bureau of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Monday 12 June called upon its Secretariat General to submit options for the refurbishment of the Paul-Henri Spaak building in Brussels, which is home to the hemicycle of the MEPs, but no longer meets safety and security standards. These proposals should include details on the costs and timescales of all options, including “no action, renovation and reconstruction”, Parliament states in a press release dated Tuesday 13 June. No decision was made yesterday evening, the leader of the S&D group, Italy's Gianni Pittella, said on Tuesday. Reacting to information on politico.eu, he said that the commitment of expenditure of nearly €500 million should be duly justified. (MB)
