13/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Tuesday 13 June that it had approved a request for the inclusion of “ail violet de Cadours” in the register of protected designations of origin (PDO). Ail violet de Cadours is a dry garlic produced using the Germidour and Valdour varieties. It is prepared around the point where the departments of Haute-Garonne, Gers and Tarn-et-Garonne meet. Garlic, which originates in the east, was probably brought to the region in the Roman invasions and colonisation over 2,000 years ago. This new designation becomes the 1,400th product to receive Community protection. (LC)
