13/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 February, a group of employees from the European institutions announced they had lodged a complaint against the European Commission, blaming it for it passiveness after the controversial recruitment of its former president, José Manuel Barroso, by Goldman Sachs (see EUROPE 11675). The complaint from the "EU Employees" group was lodged with the European Ombudsman. By joining the US bank Goldman Sachs, Barroso "dishonoured the European public service and the whole EU", the group states. It wants the Commission to take the case to the European Court of Justice and for the pension rights of the former president to be suspended. The group has already initiated an online petition (150,000 signatures) calling for sanctions against the former Commission president (see EUROPE 11640). (LC)
