13/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – Jean-Claude Juncker seemed to create surprise on Saturday 11 February, saying in an interview with German radio station Deutschlandfunk that he did not want to seek a second mandate as head of the European Commission in 2019. During a meeting with Austria's President Alexander Van der Bellen and Prime Minister Christian Kern on Monday 13 February, Juncker nevertheless said that he had not "revealed a secret" and that it had always been understood that he would only do one mandate. This does not mean he is "tired of his job", however. On Saturday, Juncker, age 62, said that the election campaign in 2014 had been good, "but there won't be a second one, because I won't put myself forward as a candidate". (SP)
