13/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 February, the European Commission approved German investment aid of €35 million to modernise the infrastructure and cover the operational costs of Saarbrücken Airport. The Commission's assessment showed that the investment aid would boost regional development and increase the mobility of residents of Saarland without unduly distorting competition in the single market. The operating aid is granted for a limited five-year period, or until 2019. The Commission also took note of the fact that the airport has already initiated a consolidation plan to enable it to cover its operating costs in the future. (EL)
