Brussels, 08/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - The legislative package on the Community trademark is expected to be improved under the Latvian presidency. The presidency is counting on relaunching inter-institutional trialogue negotiations in an effort to obtain an agreement during its mandate.
The package is made up of two regulations seeking to modify the tasks carried out by the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market and set up the European legislative framework for trademarks. The fourth round of negotiations is expected to take place over the next few weeks. The presidency will attempt to close the dossier and reach an agreement with the European Parliament, according to assurances from a source close to the dossier. A trialogue had been planned by the Italian presidency for the end of December but this was postponed, in an effort to provide more time for examining the dossier. Certain elements are already in a “pre- agreement” condition, according to the source quoted above. The question of transited goods in the EU to third countries remains open. The Presidency has said that it would inform the Competitiveness Council regarding progress made at the Competitiveness Council on 2-3 March. (MD)
