Riga, 08/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 7 January, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini called for dialogue and security in Yemen to be restored, following a new attack that has reportedly claimed 30 lives and left around 60 people wounded.
Stating that the explosion outside the police academy in Sana'a was “the latest of a series of terrorist attacks aimed at destabilising Yemen's transition”, Mogherini's spokesperson said that restoring security and completing the transition process were “paramount to achieving the objectives of stability and prosperity set out by the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative in 2011”. “All political actors should play a constructive role by promoting their policies and addressing their grievances through the peaceful channels of dialogue at a moment when progress is within reach on the constitutional and political tracks”, the spokesperson added.
Mogherini's spokesperson announced that the EU would increase its assistance for the reform of the police and the Ministry of Interior as well as its support for the constitutional process, but the spokesperson did not give further detail. “The European Union stands by the Yemeni people in these challenging times”, Mogherini's spokesperson said.
