Brussels, 08/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 8 January, the European Commission confirmed that at the end of December it had re-opened an anti-dumping investigation into imports of certain types of solar glass (a component in solar panels) from China. The notice about the re-opening of this investigation was published in the Official Journal of the EU on 19 December.
Questioned on this issue on Thursday 8 January, the spokesperson for European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström stressed that this new investigation had “no direct link” with the solar panels case of 2012-13 - which ended in the summer of 2013 with an amicable agreement between the EU and Beijing on a much lower import volume.
The re-opened investigation, which follows a complaint lodged by EU ProSun (the association of actors in the European solar industry), targets the export prices of certain types of Chinese solar glass as the prices remain below the cost of production, even including the customs duties.
The solar industry's turnover is around €210 million and 1,500 jobs are concerned at European level, EU ProSun stated on Thursday. (EH)
