Brussels, 29/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - The third troika monitoring mission (European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund) began in Nicosia, Cyprus, on Wednesday 29 January with the aim of assessing the economic situation in the island, which has been in receipt of financial aid since the summer of 2013.
According to Simon O'Connor, a spokesman for Euro Commissioner Olli Rehn, there will be talks on fiscal performance in 2013 and on a reassessment of the size of the fiscal gap for the coming years. The troika will also focus on structural reforms and progress in implementing the restructuring of the Cypriot banking sector. The president of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, said in Doha on Tuesday 28 January that the restrictions on the movement of capital would soon be lifted. (EL/transl.fl)
