29/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - Automobile industry wants concrete measures. Welcoming the European Commission's industrial renaissance project, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) is calling for short-term political support measures to strengthen the industry's competitiveness. On the basis if the CARS 2020 initiative, and on the level of action of the Commission, ACEA is calling for measures to: - drive innovation by creating a pro-innovation, technology-neutral regulatory framework; - foster growth through international trade, by ensuring reciprocity in free-trade agreements and by ensuring fair competition; - reduce red tape; - and anticipate and manage change, including by mitigating the social and economic impact of restructuring and improving labour flexibility. ACEA has recorded a drop in the number of motor vehicle registrations for the sixth consecutive year. (EH/transl.fl)
