28/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - Member states can ratify ILO Convention on domestic workers. On Tuesday 28 January, the Council of the EU gave the go-ahead for the ratification by EU member states of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) 2011Convention on domestic workers. The European Commission indicated that, in comparison with Community law, “the Convention is more precise … on the coverage of domestic workers by legislation and in other particular aspects of domestic work” particularly with regard to equal treatment involving compensation and benefits, such as maternity benefits. The Commission had called on member states to ratify the Convention by the end of March last year (see EUROPE 10813). (JK/transl.fl)
