EPP consults with Algerian MPs

Brussels, 28/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - The EPP Group from the European Parliament and the European Economic and Social Committee are holding a meeting in Brussels with Algerian MPs all this week. This series of debates takes the form of a continuous round table - not open to the public - during which all aspects relating to relations with Algeria are being and must still be discussed.

Bilateral, political, economic and social cooperation, security and more concretely the application of various agreements (association, energy and others envisaged) form the core of the debate between the EU and Algeria, although the latter had had a reserved attitude towards the European Union until just two years ago.

In addition to its wealth in hydrocarbons and the financial reserves that this specific trade procures it, Algeria promises to be an attractive market as it has been little explored by European business to date, as it is a country that has not looked further for private foreign investment and its trade has remained well regulated. Its political attraction has also grown in the regional context of combating the rise in terrorism not only in the north of Africa but also in the Sahel-Sahara zone. (FB/transl.jl)
