28/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - Commission proposes €840,000 from globalisation fund, the EGF, to help redundant workers in Spain. On Tuesday 28 January, the European Commission answered a request from Spain for assistance and proposed that €840,000 from globalisation funding be provided to help 300 workers made redundant in the textile sector in Comunidad Valenciana (Spain). 198 Spanish SMEs have made a number of redundancies following increased competition with textiles produced outside the EU. This competitiveness imbalance has been compounded by the economic crisis in Europe. The estimated cost of the reinsertion package is €1.68 million, half of which will come from the globalisation fund. Spain applied for support from the EGF following the dismissal of 560 workers in 198 small and medium sized textile enterprises in the region of the Comunidad Valenciana. (JK/transl.fl)
