26/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - Ashton/Kazykhanov meeting? On Wednesday, 25 January, the EU special representative to Central Asia, Pierre Morel, announced that the EU high representative for foreign affairs was expected to meet Kazakhstan's foreign affairs minister, Yerzhan Kazykhanov, at the beginning of February. Morel informed journalists at the end of a meeting with Kazykhanov that “we hope the meeting between Catherine Ashton and your minister will take place at the beginning of February”. No meeting, however, has as yet been included on Ashton's agenda, explained the high representative's staff to Agence Europe. During their meeting, Morel and Kazykhanov discussed the current situation and perspectives regarding “Kazakhstan - Central Asia - European Union” relations and the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, border management, cross-border and regional co-operation, and the forthcoming consultation on Afghanistan.
