Brussels, 01/07/2011 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner for the Single Market Michel Barnier will present, probably on Wednesday 13 July, a recommendation on access to basic financial services. This recommendation will encourage the member states to set in place legislation which will help the least-favoured categories of citizens to have at least a current bank account. This recommendation, which was imposed by certain member states which were opposed to any regulatory initiative at European level, despite constant consumer lobbying in favour, will be valid for a year - the time it takes to put together a good legislative proposal, said a source close to the commissioner.
