Brussels, 27/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - A recent Eurostat publication shows that under 1% of European farms cover 20% of utilised agricultural area (UAA). The UAA refers to land used for farming, including arable land, permanent grassland, permanent crops and also kitchen gardens. The distribution of UAA between large and small farms varies between countries but, in general, a relatively small number of farms occupy a high percentage of the agricultural area.
