International seminar on recruitment

Brussels, 12/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - A number of influential national and international governing bodies met in Brussels on Tuesday 12 April to discuss the future of public sector recruitment. The event, hosted by Commission Vice-President with responsibility for inter-institutional relations and administration Maroš Šefèoviè, focused on identifying and sharing best practice to help guarantee quality of staff, and effective cost-per-hire, in the public sector.

“Staffing and recruitment are increasingly important issues for public sector organisations across the world; they need to ensure more than ever that they are providing value for money during these times of austerity. We believe that we have gone a long way in a short time to improve the staff selection procedures of the EU, and I am looking forward to sharing our knowledge and experience with our partners from across the globe”, the commissioner said.

Among the representatives taking part in the seminar were those from the United Nations, the African Union, the Public Service Commission of Canada, the International Organisation for Migration, the Council of Europe and of course several EU member states.

European students and graduates have only a few days left to apply for the EU's 2011 “AD” recruitment drive, which closes at midday CET (Brussels time) on 14 April 2011. (L.C./transl.rt)
