12/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - EIB backs investment at Koper port in Slovenia. The European Investment Bank (EIB) granted a €35 million loan on Monday 11 April to finance modernisation of infrastructure at the port of Koper in Slovenia to boost capacity and allow larger ships to berth and help cater for the increased demand for transport. The EIB loan will finance the extension of the container terminal and the purchase of new equipment including cranes to increase the capacity of the only Slovenian port. The Port of Koper is a priority sea port in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and is connected to the TEN-T priority project No. 6, the railway axis Lyon - Trieste - Divaèa/Koper - Ljubljana - Budapest - Ukrainian border. Luka Koper, Pristaniški in logistièni sistem, d.d., will be the project promoter and the final beneficiary of the EIB loan. (O.L./transl.fl)
