Brussels, 11/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - The use of security scanners in EU airports and the roadmap for a low carbon energy system by 2050 will be two of the issues on the plenary session agenda of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) to be held in Brussels on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 February. The meeting will be chaired by Staffan Nilsson.
Committee of the Regions (CoR) President Mercedes Bresso will deliver a speech on “Contributing to the success of EUROPE 2020 in partnership - a shared commitment for local and regional authorities, the social partners and civil society organisations” at 3.00pm on Wednesday. Anna Darmanin (Employees' Group, Malta) will present the EESC action plan in the field of communication, entitled Say it, Do it, Tweet it.
The agenda is as follows:
A) Opinions to be debated: (1) Bank Resolution Funds (rapporteur: Lena Roussenova, Employers' Group, Bulgaria); (2) Tractors/flexibility scheme (Virgilio Ranocchiari, Employers' Group, Italy); (3) Regulating financial services for sustainable growth (Edgardo Maria Iozia, Employees' Group, Italy); (4) Enhancing economic policy coordination (Stefano Palmieri, Employees' Group, Italy); (5) Agriculture/outermost regions (José María Espuny Moyano, Employers' Group, Spain); (6) Roadmap for a low carbon energy system by 2050 (Antonello Pezzini, Employers' Group, Italy); (7) Use of security scanners in EU airports (Bernardo Hernandez Bataller, Various Interests Group, Spain).
B) Opinions to be put straight to the vote: inter alia (1) Access to secondary raw materials (scrap iron, recycled paper, etc) - own initiative opinion by Josef Zboøil (Employers' Group Czech Republic); (2) Proposals for regulations on: Support for rural development by the EAFRD and direct aid schemes under the CAP (Gilbert Bros, Various Interests Group, France); (3) three opinions from Thomas McDonogh (Employers' Group, Ireland) on - the action plan on GNSS applications, the first radio spectrum policy programme, and European broadband: investing in digitally driven growth.
C) Opinions to be drawn up under the simplified procedure (Category C): inter alia: Controls of agricultural or forestry tractors; Braking devices of agricultural or forestry tractors; Operating space of agricultural or forestry tractors; System of taxation/Parent companies and subsidiaries (recast); Guidelines for employment policies.
