Brussels, 13/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Staffan Nilsson, who chairs the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), is meeting Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the French Republic, at the French economic, social and environmental council (Palais d'Iéna, Paris), on Friday 14 January. Nicolas Sarkozy will give a speech on general policy. Staffan Nilsson will speak of Europe's importance in carrying out economic and social reforms at national level.
An EESC press release points out that, historically, the French economic and social council has been a model for the EESC, which has given the civil society an undeniable advisory and expert role in the construction and implementation of national policies. Staffan Nilsson will also state, in Paris, how convinced he is that the two institutions can strengthen their cooperation and share expertise and knowledge to step up civil society's essential contribution to the construction and implementation of policies, in France as in Europe.
