Brussels, 21/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - At their informal meeting in Bruges on 7 December, education ministers of the countries which are involved in the Copenhagen process entrusted Cedefop (European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training) with the task of monitoring member states' progress in developing vocational education and training (VET) and reporting on it regularly. The Centre was also charged with delivering help with the practical implementation of the common European vocational training tools and principles, decided by common accord, and monitoring the gaps and needs of each. One of the major achievements of European policy cooperation has been the development of six common European instruments and principles to promote transparency and mobility for learning and working, Cedefop notes: 1) European qualifications framework (EQF); 2) European credit system for VET (ECVET); 3) European quality assurance framework for VET (EQAVET); 4) Europass; 5) guidance and counselling (for drafting of European VET policies); 6) identification and validation of non-formal and informal learning. The Bruges meeting confirmed the joint commitment of member states and the European Commission to continue to cooperate on VET and to implement the objectives set (see EUROPE 10272). (I.L./transl.rt)
