Brussels, 21/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - On 16 December, the European Commission approved the acquisition of control over Andreae-NorisZahn AG (Anzag), one of the largest German wholesalers of pharmaceutical products, by the international group Alliance Boots, which is active in health and beauty retailing as well as in pharmaceutical wholesaling. In Germany, Alliance Boots is a highly specialised (short-line) wholesaler of oncology products via its subsidiary Megapharm, but is not yet active in full-line wholesaling. The operation, of which the Commission was notified on 11 November 2010, was approved by the Commission as it will result in only minor overlaps of the parties' subsidiaries in so-called pre-wholesale services such as warehousing and transport services provided to pharmaceutical manufacturers.
