Go-ahead for Dnata acquisition of Alpha Flight Group

Brussels, 21/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved the acquisition by Dnata (Dubai) of sole control of United Kingdom headquartered Alpha Flight Group, which provides in-flight catering services for several international airlines. Dnata provides airline services, including passenger handling, cargo handling, ramp, maintenance and other technical services for airlines worldwide. It is part of the Emirates group which also comprises the Emirates airline. The Emirates group is wholly owned by the government-owned Investment Corporation of Dubai. The operation, of which the Commission was notified on 12 November 2010, will result in a vertical relationship as Alpha's provision of in-flight catering services is an input for Emirates' airline services. There is, however, no risk of vertical foreclosure following the transaction, given the existence of alternatives for catering services at each affected airport and the Emirates' small share of the total demand for in-flight catering services.
