Brussels, 21/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - The Medgaz gas pipeline project seeks to supply Europe through a direct connection between Algeria and Spain. On Sunday, the Algerian minister for energy and mines, Yusuf Yousfi, quoted by the national press agency APS announced that this project was “making good progress” and should be launched in the next few weeks. He also declared that “there are no contentious issues with regard to Medgaz. The project is making good progress and I think that it will be launched in the next few weeks, as soon it is technically ready because for the moment, it is not completely online”. He denied the contentious issues hinted at regarding the price of gas supply to Europe through Medgaz. The quantity of this gas, according to forecasts quoted by APS, is around 8 billion m3 per annum. (F.B./transl.fl)
