Conference on full employment and decent work

Brussels, 13/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - In support of the mandate received by the EU-Asia summit (ASEM 8) held in Brussels on 4 and 5 October 2010, the ministers for employment and work of this partnership met on Monday 13 December in Leyden (Netherlands), together with Commissioner Lázsló Andor (Employment, Social Affairs/Inclusion). The subject of the meeting was “Full employment and decent work for all: getting out of the crisis with a strong social basis for our citizens”. Those taking part focused on ways of promoting social cohesion and the social dimensions of globalisation in the context of economic recovery, the Belgian Presidency stressed in a press release.

This conference of the ASEM ministers for employment and work has three objectives: (1) making a political contribution to economic recovery and job-creating growth; (2) renewing support of the global pact for employment of the ILO, which was adopted in Geneva in June 2009 (EUROPE 9927), and its recognition by the G20; (3) taking stock of the practical cooperation initiatives carried out on the basis of the action programme decided at the second ASEM conference, which was held in Bali on 15 June 2008 on the subject “Asia, Europe and the Future of Regional Economic Integration”.
