Stockholm attack worries EU

Brussels, 13/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström has expressed concern at the suicide bomb attack in the centre of Stockholm on Saturday when the shops were at their busiest with people doing their Christmas shopping. One man was killed in the attack. Malmström, who is herself Swedish, said on Sunday that the attack on Drottninggatan in Stockholm was a cause of concern and horror. She said the attack was a sharp reminder of how vulnerable we are in our open society and how much damage one individual has the power to inflict. On Sunday, Swedish intelligence services said the double explosion was a “terrorist crime”, which had caused the death of one person, suspected of detonating the bomb, and injured two others. The suspected bomber has been named as Taimour Abdulwahab, who was born in Iraq in 1981 but who has Swedish nationality. It is believed he had links to the Iraqi branch of Al-Qaida. (B.C./transl.rt)
