13/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - FRONTEX must respect human rights. “Member states are reducing European migration policy to one purely of security,” regrets Hélène Flautre (Greens/EFA, France), who recently presented a report produced by the Migreurop network entitled “Agence Frontex: quelles garanties pour les droits de l'homme?” The European Commission is proposing to enhance the operational means of FRONTEX, but with these new powers come “serious worries” for fundamental rights according to Flautre. She said that the report sought to make member states face up to their responsibilities, and also to help make decision-makers and ordinary citizens aware of what is at stake for human rights.
