Loans for “green growth”

Brussels, 13/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - The visit of European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice-President Philippe de Fontaine Vive to Tunisia last week saw two loans worth a total of €313 million granted for public transport and energy performance in the country. The first loan, worth €119 million, was granted to the Société Réseau Ferroviaire de Tunis (SRFT) for the construction of a new suburban rail network for the Tunisian capital. The second loan, of €194 million, was signed with the Société Tunisienne d'Electricité et de Gaz (STEG) and will finance the construction of a single-shaft combined-cycle (gas turbine with steam cycle) power plant in Sousse. De Fontaine Vive's visit also provided the opportunity for the signing of a €6.8 million technical assistance agreement for the roads sector. (O.L./transl.rt)
