Member states confirm agreement on rail network for competitive freight

Brussels, 10/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 10 September, COREPER (Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU) formally approved (with one abstention from the Polish delegation) a second reading agreement found with the European Parliament on the regulation relating to the European rail network for competitive freight (EUROPE 9802). The Parliament endorsed the agreement on 15 June, mainly calling for the creation of one-stop shops responsible for the management of requests for train paths along the established network (EUROPE 10162). A European Commission declaration joined to the compromise specifies, however, that the one-stop shops are “coordination tools”. They may be technical bodies within the corridor management structure or one of the infrastructure managers concerned. Sweden, for its part, restricts the function of coordinating one-stop shops to requests for train path transfers. (A.By./transl)
