27/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - On 22 October, the European Commission adopted the regulation laying down detailed rules for the implementation of Council regulation (EC) 1005/2008 establishing a Community system to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (see EUROPE 9750). This regulation, due to come into force on 1 January 2010, is designed to prevent the import into the EU of fish caught illegally by third country vessels, inter alia through the introduction of the requirement for catch certificates to be submitted and through arrangements on inspections of these third country vessels in EU ports. The implementing regulation was published in the Official Journal of the EU, number L280 of Tuesday 27 October. (L.C./transl.rt)
