23/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - France criticised for hindering free movement of alcohol test kits. On 23 January, the European Commission sent a reasoned opinion to the French authorities asking them to amend their legislation on the use of alcohol test kits in vehicles and by the police. The Commission criticises France for not authorising the use of tests approved in other member states and of thus infringing the principles of non-discrimination and mutual recognition of products legally produced and marketed in another member state. Paris has two months to fall into line with its obligations as regards EU law - otherwise it may be taken to the Court of Justice of the EU. (EH/transl.fl)
