23/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - Agreement on nuclear issue welcomed. On Thursday 23 January, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso met Iran's President Hassan Rouhani in Davos. During the talks, which took place “in an open and constructive atmosphere”, according to the European Commission, Barroso welcomed the interim agreement reached in November 2013 on the Iranian nuclear programme and the start of the joint action plan's implementation on 20 January (see EUROPE 11000). “Iran should use this window of opportunity with determination to move to a comprehensive long-term solution on the nuclear issue. This would open up the potential for an improved relationship and broader cooperation”, the Commission states in a press release. The negotiations for a long term solution could begin in February.
