Portuguese infringement on road infrastructure safety

Brussels, 23/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - Portugal will be appearing before the European Court of Justice because it has failed to respect the guidelines on road infrastructure safety assessment for the Trans-European Network for transport. On Thursday 23 January, the European Commission said it had decided to refer the country to the Court because its non-application of European rules has a negative impact on road safety in the country, a country in which the number of road accidents is higher than the European average. Safety impact assessment and road safety audits at different stages of road construction and planning have not been correctly carried out in Portugal. (MD/transl.fl)
