Brussels, 23/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 22 January, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle and Prime Minister of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Fatmir Besimi, along with FYROM's Foreign Affairs Minister Nikola Poposki, decided to continue discussion on strengthening the high level dialogue on accession and its impact, ahead of the next progress report in October, so as to move forward on the EU path to integration. During their meeting, they also discussed implementation of the political agreement of 1 March 2013 and the key reform priorities “including in the field of freedom of media, judicial independence and electoral legislation”, according to a European Commission press release. Good neighbourly relations and the need to continue efforts to build confidence and create conditions for solutions were also the focus of the meeting. The opening of accession negotiations is currently blocked because of the name issue with Greece and the complicated relations with Bulgaria. (CG/transl.fl)
