09/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - Contact Group meeting. The international Contact Group on Libya met in Abu Dhabi on Thursday 9 June, where it decided on a financial aid system for the NTC ahead of the departure of Colonel Gaddafi. Abdel Hafidh Ghoga, the deputy president of the NTC, said that the system had come on line that same day. Italy has announced that it will be providing direct aid of some €300 to €400 million for the Libyan rebels in the form of loans and fuel. France has announced that it will be providing the NTC with some €290 billion that used to belong to the Libyan Central Bank but have been frozen under the sanctions against the Libyan regime. Franco Frattini, Italy's foreign minster, said Gaddafi's power was coming to an end. If requested by the United Nations, Germany is said to be prepared to consider sending peace-keeping troops to Libya when Gaddafi leaves power. (H.B./transl.fl)
