Brussels, 09/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton backs the reappointment of Ban Ki-moon as Secretary-General of the United Nations. In a press release issued on 8 June, she said the South Korean's announcement that he would be standing for a second term office was “very good news for the United Nations and the international community”. “Over these past five years, the European Union and the United Nations under the leadership of the secretary-general have established an outstanding working relationship. With this declaration, the European Union renews its commitment to supporting the UN in responding to the challenges it faces across the world.” José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, has also called for Ban Ki-moon's reappointment.
