09/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - Cohn-Bendit on referendum in Italy. If the Italians say no to the nuclear option in their referendum on Sunday 12 June, after Germany's decision to close down its nuclear power plants, then all European governments will have to give their position in turn. That was the opinion expressed by Daniel Cohn-Bendit, who is co-president of the Greens/EFA Group at the European Parliament. During a press conference on Wednesday 8 June, on the impact of the Italian referendum in Europe, Cohn-Bendit said Italy would not even have the means to take up nuclear power as €7 billion are needed to start up a nuclear plant. Cohn-Bendit said the Italian state did not have that kind of money and even the private sector would be hard put to raise that amount. (G.Ba/Gp)
